Department of Chemistry, Chung Yuan Christian University: K.K. Outstanding Graduate Student Scholarship (2026.10.17)
Vice President Wu, Dean Yeh, Chairman Chuang, distinguished faculty members, and fellow students, good afternoon.
I am Anderson Tsai, President of Taiwan K.K. Corporation. I am an alumnus of CYCU Chemistry... well, the son of one. Today, it is my great honor and pleasure to represent my late father, Mr. Teng-Long Tsai, at this scholarship award ceremony.
When my father was alive, he often told me that education transformed his life. Fifty years ago, when he founded Taiwan K.K. Corp., he started in the field of industrial water treatment, which was directly rooted in his chemistry major. For our company's growth and success over the decades, the Department of Chemistry at CYCU deserves immense credit. Because my father deeply understood the power of knowledge, he made a special effort to help establish the department library and provide a wide variety of books. His hope was that younger generations of students would make full use of these resources and find the strength to transform their own futures right here.
Today, I would like to take this special opportunity to share three things with all of you.
First, have the courage to hit the road. Recently, there is a documentary about running in theaters titled* Hit The Road Now!* It was filmed last year when a camera crew followed and filmed me along the way as I participated in an around-the-island marathon across Taiwan. Honestly, while I was running, I kept thinking to myself: "Running is such a boring thing. Would a movie about it even be good?" Yet after watching it in the theater myself, it turned out to be quite fascinating! The core message of this film can be summed up in one sentence: "People never lack dreams; what they lack is the courage to hit the road." This is the first message I want to share with you today. Once you have a dream, please muster the courage to take that first step.
Second, choose the difficult path. Everyone encounters moments in life when tough decisions must be made. When several options are laid out in front of you and you are hesitating over which one to pick, my advice is: choose the difficult one. This echoes the exact same principle that Senior Chen just shared about doing difficult things. Today, the very first question Chairman Chuang asked me when I arrived was, "Did you run across the Gobi Desert this year?" Indeed, only when you are willing to choose a challenging path will you get to see scenery that others never get to see.
Third, live in the present moment. What does it mean to live in the present? It means giving your very best to the role you are playing right now. All the award recipients sitting here today are doing a fantastic job, because you have played the role of a "student" exceptionally well. When you go home, you are sons and daughters, so fulfill your role in the family well. In the future, when you step into society and take on different positions, give your all and do the work in your hands to the absolute best of your ability. Taking full responsibility for your current role is the truest way to live in the present.
To sum up the three things I shared with you today: first, have the courage to hit the road; second, when faced with choices, challenge yourself with the difficult path; and third, live in the present and do your utmost in everything at hand.
Once again, congratulations to all the award winners today. Thank you very much!
